It is learnt from Sichuan Provincial Department of Commerce that 490 enterprises with direct foreign investment were ratified in Sichuan Province in 2006, up by 16.67 percent as compared to the previous year, with contracted foreign investment of US$ 2,762.31 million, up by 34.37 percent over the previous year, and real foreign investment of US$ 1,258.01 million, an increase of 38.70 percent over the previous year. According to the statistics of China¡¯s Ministry of Commerce, Sichuan ranks 12th in the country and 1st in West China in terms of its ability to attract foreign investment.
It is also reported that from January to December in 2006, 166 capital increase projects were ratified in Sichuan Province, with an increased investment of US$ 793.2 million and a net contracted capital increase of US$ 742.6 million, which accounts for 27.38 percent of the total contracted foreign investment of Sichuan Province. The real investment of the contracted capital increase amounts to US$ 0.274 million, up by 52.22 over the previous year and accounting for 22.68 percent of Sichuan attracted most foreign investment among twelve provinces in West China last year.
In addition, fourteen enterprises from Global Top 500 were introduced into Sichuan Province in 2006, and another five which already entered Sichuan increased their investment.
The foreign investment in real estate industry of the province has amounted to US$ 1.187 billion in 2006, with real foreign investment of US$ 0.549 billion, both exceeding those in the manufacturing industry. The investment in real estate ranks first among investments in all industries. With absolute predominance, the real estate and manufacturing industries have become the major fields that attract direct foreign investment.
