Singapore, Sichuan eye hi-tech innovation park in Chengdu

Jun. 29, 2010 (China Knowledge) - Singapore and China's Sichuan Province yesterday agreed to work in joint efforts on the development of a 35-sq km hi-tech innovation park in Chengdu, Sichuan, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
The collaboration was discussed at the 12th Singapore-Sichuan Trade and Investment Committee held on Monday.
The hi-tech innovation park is expected to combine modern manufacturing, services and modern living. It will play a major role in the regional business and serve as a gateway for businesses expansion in western China.
The collaboration will be extended to key areas such as transport and logistics, education, food and beverage, retail, urban infrastructure, IT, and banking and finance.
In the first five months in 2010, bilateral trade between Singapore and Sichuan amounted to US$267.12 million, a surge of 68.4% over the same period last year, according to statistics released by the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Sichuan province.
