THE creative team of the American animated comedy film ¡°Kung Fu Panda¡± arrived in Chengdu yesterday to look for inspiration and material for a sequel.
The creative team from DreamWorks¡¯ animation studio will visit a panda breeding base at Qingcheng Mountain and Jinsha relics in the following two days, West China City Daily reported today.
¡°Kung Fu Panda 2¡± is currently in pre-production and the animated film is expected to use a lot of landscape inspired by Sichuan, the report said.
Sichuan is the home of the panda. The Wolong Giant Panda Breeding Center in Sichuan is the earliest, largest and best-known panda reserve in China.
The creative team decided to visit Chengdu after the Wenchuan Earthquake.
Jeffery Katzenberg, the CEO of DreamWorks Animation, and Angelina Jolie, the voice of a South China Tiger in the film, said at the Cannes Film Festival in May that they hoped to visit the hometown of the panda and do something for the children that were affected by a deadly in the region that month.
Some people have used online discussions to suggest the main character Po, a panda, speak Sichuan dialect in the new film to add more laughs.
¡°Kung Fu Panda¡± was set in ancient China and the plot revolved around a bumbling panda who aspired to be a kung fu master. After a much feared warrior escaped prison, Po was foretold to be the Dragon Warrior, to the dislike of resident kung fu warriors.
¡°Kung Fu Panda¡± grossed US$20.3 million on its opening day and $60.2 million on its opening weekend in North America, resulting in the number one position at the box office.
